Oct 2011 - This trade had made us lots of money in the past and was considered super safe! But on this day everything changed. The Result came out at a deviation of +2.6 which was a HUGE buy signal…. The spike should have been 50 pips! The top of my screen should have been smashed to bits as this spiked. Unfortunately it didn’t spike up….but started to spike DOWN. For most Spike traders this was a DISASTER! …as they couldn’t close their orders fast enough…. Many reported getting “margin calls” and blowing up there accounts.

We later discovered that we had a so called “Fat Finger” event….. Some one in a big UK clearing bank, programmed his trading system the wrong way round, and when the deviation came out calling for a huge BUY… the system executed a huge SELL. I have never before seen this happen. I hope I never see this again.

Fortunately I only took minor damage…as my software detected an impending disaster and closed my trades automatically. I lived to see another day… many traders didn’t… and it probably ended spike trading for many people.  Here is the video from that day…..
